I am not entirely sure what it is about them that appeals to me the most. The intricate tiny nature, the surprises inside, the history. As far as I know there is no Russian ancestry in my background, yet as a proud All American Mutt who even knows! I have always been reverent and enamored of Orthodox religious imagery, and of course of painting directly on wood or wooden panels. Maybe it is just the possibilities they each offer, the time love and craftsmanship in each one.
