Every evening is more gorgeous than the last- soon I will update everyone on our move last month to Arizona. For now, enjoy those sunsets!
SO glad that I had a chance to meet up with my good friends the Smiths before my move for a family session! We were chasing the late summer afternoon light but we had a few great moments of June golden hour! My family is really going to miss them, we were invited into their lifegroup a few years ago for which we have been so blessed, and our sons are best friends. You don't easily find folks as special as the Smiths- we will really miss them! Thankfully we will be getting a poll in Arizona so we are def making them visit us!
I love making couples kiss in front of their children! I get them really close and say "make out!" or something silly- the kids always scream a dramatic ewww or roll their eyes, and everyone giggles! I can't quite explain it in words, however I think its really important for kids to see their parents connection and have good memories of them showing affection & in love :)
Heather & Brad are high school sweethearts, so after a few years together they are pretty good at this!
Ok just a honesty moment. I could have done a better job here.
We chased the sun and the sun won- it set on me faster than anticipated.
This is why I am an available light photographer. I LOVE and adore natural light. I also love dramatic 'flashy' photography! Sometimes you want one style but the sun done set already.....so you need to bring the light yourself because life happens. We ran out of days before my big move to shoot a session, then ran out of daylight while shooting! Why not be ready for whatever look you want to achieve? Regrets: I could have posed them more comfortably, and I wish I had brought a larger 60" softbox since I think the bare bulb here was kinda harsh- but man I am loving my Flashpoint Xplor! It took about 1 moment to expose for the ambient light I wanted (first smaller dark photo) Then I just flipped on the strobe via my on camera R2 transmitter and the Xplor automatically adjusted itself to High Speed Sync (as my shutter speed was over 200) . Less than sixty seconds in post to apply a preset I made last and saved year, and 15 minutes to export and upload a blog. Whew! Its not a debate about which kind of lighting is better- I like and use them both. Its a matter of adapting to control the look I want at any given moment. Always learning!

It was a dark and stormy afternoon...and really really cold for the last day of school in May?!?! But this family was tough and happy, a few clouds did not stop their smiles! Enjoy this sneak peek of the Wilson & Church Family!
Ms Ashley cashed in her gift certificate from a friend for family photos this Sunday afternoon- Look at these amazing boys! You would not believe how loving and sweet her older guys were with baby brother-adorable! Here is a teaser of portraits to come!
Finished wrapping up a present today! Chelsea got a gift certificate for her Mother In Law Cheryl for Christmas and yesterday Cheryl got her whole family together for family portraits to redeem it! Gift Certificates are the perfect fit. I am so grateful I am going to be able to get all of my 2016 Git Certificate customers taken care of before our move to Arizona :)
And thanks again to the Towle family at Amulet Farm for being one of my absolutefavorite portrait venues!
This week we got all the seasons in a 72 hour period! Woke up to snow this morning after a sunburn in 82 degrees Wednesday- but right in the middle of that was a perfect bright and beautiful spring engagement session at Cheekwood botanical gardens. I loved hanging out with this sweet couple enjoy their smiles and the perfume of the Hyacinths. We arrived just before peak bloom- so there were already hundreds of tulips and gorgeous dogwoods in the golden hour sunshine!
Congratulations Matt and Chelsea on your engagement!

I have worked for and with several photographers during my journey, but none was so special as working as Erika Chambers Photography's second at weddings years ago! I actually did not do any of my own weddings at that time, and famously told her I never would! HA! The enormity of the responsibilitybeing in charge of the memories at the beginning of a lifetime overwhelmed me then- and is still at the front of my mind now every wedding I take on. The moment I stop getting butterflies before a session is the moment I will know its time to move on!
What I love about Erika is her heart- she understands the emotion and importance behind her captures and where the focus really should be (pun totally intended). Erika's photography career encompasses a wide range of events and social causes. This girl is the real sincere deal, all heart and guts. She is brave when she is scared, a true measure of courage, and doesn't fail to bring her entire heart into every project from the United Way photo journalism, to social causes and her music- oh yeah, she is a ridiculously talented musician and singer. If she wasn't the sweetest damn person, you would be so jealous of all she has going on for her <3
P.S. I love you Erika! I cannot wait to see where your heart, dreams, and adventures take you!
Here is where to find Erika online!
I was blessed to be given a chance to be a part of Erika's team, learning more about the love and art of wedding photography. Here are a few of my favorite photos I took while under her wing!
Ah, this is the one. The photo of the little girl who started my obsession with flower girl portraits and candid photos!
So you have probably guessed, Erika is pretty special and many people really, really love her! Check out this article from the Preset Shop about Erika!

I do, I adore it. Recently in New York I had my 5DM3 and my favorite sigma 35mm Art lens....but for two whole days I only shot the site with my phone.
However....I will just leave this here. I am amazed at what my phone can do, and I def know of professional photographers who use them in real portrait and commercial sessions! I fully believe the most important camera is the one one has with them when the memories happen. I also am not sweating job security because for every iphone and DIY idea there is a Pinterest fail. That i no bashing or throwing shade- because I am so excited by and thankful for the tech we have to all be creators! And documenting the moments of your life is something I fully support to be sure- its how I DO IT! More than half of my families events are iphone and wonderful captures.
For your most special moments I can be trusted to take care of the lighting and angles and depth of field, the edits and 1,000 of blink and you miss them memories. My ideal client knows that on a day as important and huge as Wedding or Senior Portrait session they want to be fully immersed in the moment, not angling their iphone while reciting vows and praying they turn out ok :)

Chelsea contacted me for a surprise portrait session as a Christmas gift a few months back, of her sweet little grand baby and favorite horse friend. I have been keeping these quiet until the canvas gifts were unwrapped- she is such a beauty I just loved the results! Chelsea operates Olde Tyme Carriage and lives on a gorgeous piece of Tennessee land- no better time for portraits than the fall colour just north of Nashville on horseback!
A few last peeks for the honeymooners before the blog and gallery are ready!

Auburn alums Christian & Andrew celebrated their Nashville wedding day begining with mimosas at The Blow Out Co, then the sweet and emotional ceremony at The First Lutheran Church around the corner from Bridgestone arena in the heart of downtown. Then the wedding party was whisked away on a bright red Hello Trolley to the Parthenon with a heck of a party night of dancing to an awesome live band! Enjoy the final sneak peek images before I deliver this happy couples gallery in a few weeks!
